Artist Statement

Nature has been an inspiration towards my art. Since a child, I’ve been awestruck by what it provides to us: from color and light to life and death. In my art, I utilize birds as a symbol to nature and culture. I am fond of birds because of their organic connection to the world with their ability to soar the skies. Their unique wings and plumage provide storytelling ability and elegance to the world with its splendid colors, shapes, texture, and form. For example, when someone sees an image of a hummingbird, it can represent a symbol of beauty and spring. For Mayan and Aztec cultures, it represents rebirth and reincarnation. Art is an universal language that brings the audience together through imagination and emotions. The stillness of the birds expressed in my artwork represents nature and culture framed within its boundaries if overlooked at.
